Got up to the airport today

Postby skoker » Wed May 13, 2009 7:57 pm

Been a long winter, but I needed a hair cut today.

Look above the winglet and you can see the Q400 that the nose gear collapsed yesterday.

Worst pilot ever...  landed 2/3 the way down the runway and exited at the last taxiway... :o

Mm, at least he didn't land on the safety ramp, nor did he touch down and then wait several seconds wasting even more runway before he could use the brakes without overheating them.

Better to stay aloft and use aerodynamic braking to slow the plane down rather than come in hot and snap the landing gear.

Sometimes pilots deliberately land further down the runway to minimize taxi-times.

...and if they were doing a hands off landing, its gonna touchdown about a third of the way in.

Still though, last taxi way...I don't think that was done on purpose. Not too many captains would want to risk running off the tarmac... ::)
