Camera is transferring with bad file names

Postby machineman9 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 11:50 am

I have the Canon EOS 1000D and ever since I came back from holiday (I've got some photos, just awaiting some more off a different camera) my camera seems to have started to transfer my images with bad file names.

Usually they are saved to my computer like this: "IMG_2806". However, now they seem to be coming out like "_MG_2806". The I in IMG has been replaced with _

How can I correct this? When I transferred my photos the first few had the correct file name and then the rest started getting the wrong one. I had a look at the transfer settings and they seem to be alright, but I think somehow the prefix has been changed.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Are you using Canons software to transfer? Maybe there's a setting within that that needs to be changed.

Yeh, I am using the Canon software. I haven't made any changes to the software. If I set rules such as use a prefix (IMG) then the photo number, it seems to still come out with the _MG or for some settings it makes the image 0001 which is not what I want. I want it to continue the same pattern.

I've found it depends on the shooting mode you're using. All the Basic Zone preset options will use the full IMG_ prefix. The Advanced Zone options use the _MG_ prefix.

Most of my photos are taken using TV mode. When I transferred over all my photos it was just the first cluster that were named right and the rest came out wrong. The settings should've been the same on both these groups.

I remember now. It depends on the Color Space setting, Adobe or sRGB.

:P That indeed could be the matter. I do remember trying to see the difference in the colours.

Cheers. Solved that problem  ;)
