Vintage glider rally

Postby Hagar » Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:53 pm

Back in May our local gliding club at Parham hosted the National VGC Rally. The weather wasn't brilliant but I decided to go up there to check it out. It's a long time since I visited this place but things don't change much. A cold, gusty northerly wind meant there wasn't much in the way of thermal activity but at least the local ridge was working. Being a weekend the club members were out in force & the two club tugs were kept busy all day. Here's a few shots to set the scene.  I don't know much about gliders & had to look most of these up.

A nice EoN AP-10-460 Srs 1 being towed to the launch point.

The Pawnee tug ready for business. Who's next?

Here we go. One of the club members gets away. Not sure of the type.

I know this one. ;) The recently restored T.21B Sedbergh going off behind the Super Cub. A beautiful sight.

This is the Slingsby T.49B Capstan. Intended as a replacement for the T.21B.

This modified Chipmunk belongs to the RAF Gliding Association. It came in to tow a glider back home after landing out.

I didn''t post these before as I had other things to think about. My granddaughter was born a couple of days later. 8-)
