"Is he pointing at me or you, Greg?"

"I dunno James, I think it's you. Run over there to see what he wants."

So as we were putting the 2-33 back, I was shooting pics of the R44 that had been doing circuits all afternoon. One dude went back on the ATV to get his car to pick us up (we were halfway down the field), Sean went over to take a closer look at the Cygnet, which left myself and another guy, Greg, hanging out by the 2-33.

Anyway. The R44 was facing us and it looked like the guy in the left seat was waving towards us.

So I run over there to see what's up and they ask if I'd like a ride around the pattern. Naturally, I said yes. :P

Good view of the banner operations.

And quickly enough, it was back on final to 25.

We set down and the guy who was actually taking his lesson said "How much time ya got?" I said "It doesn't really matter, why?" And he came back with "Take a few minutes up here. It's a much better view." So I got out, we switched spots as I hopped into the right seat, scared sh*tless. The instructor gave me a quick overview of everything, and I pulled up on the collective. We did some basic maneuvers, but my life insurance policy isn't up to date and I was actually very scared of putting the R44 into the dirt. After about ten minutes time, I said "Thanks, but I'll let you get back to your lesson". I feel like I owe the guy something. He basically gave up $30 of his training for me (It's $300/hr, dry). Funnily enough, the instructor and R44 are based at Sky Manor, but he flies down to 47N to train this dude. Next time I'm over at N40 I'll give him a check or a box of cookies or something. ::)

Overall an incredible experience, but I'll stick to my fixed-wings. :) Sean, do you have any more pics of me flying? My parents would like to see. :P

Fantastic! Seems that you & Sean have found a great little spot there. ;)

J:
I have a few more shots of you fumbling with the R44, but that one was probably the best one for recognizing your face.

But I'll dig them out, probably tonight.
