Working in Washington this week... took a little walk today and took some snapshots.

The Smithsonian Castle:

Part of the looooong-overdue WWII Memorial:

A certain country lawyer of some renown, immortalized in stone:

And some regular guys who got mixed up in a reaction to the "Domino Theory", immortalized in bronze.

A very fitting memorial, I think (although many disagree)... really makes you think about the people behind the names. I realized today I don't personally know anybody who died in Vietnam, but I did see one young lady on tiptoe, dragging her finger along until she called out "here he is!" to her companions and took a rubbing of the carved name with a pencil and piece of paper.

Next: perhaps a certain new annex to a local air and space museum... may try for that tomorrow, if work doesn't go too late tonight

I love Washington D.C.!!  I have a conference I'm going too next year in Washington D.C. and I can't wait!!

The first time I was at the Vietnam War Memorial it was a somber moment for me.  First I had two Uncles the each served three tours there and made it back but, my Brother had a very close friend that practically lived with us and I considered another older brother killed there.  It was a hard time for his family and ours.

Thank you for sharing, Sean

Great shots Sean, National Mall is extremely impressive, and every American should go there at least once in their lifetime.  Heck, anyone should/could go there once in their lifetime, no matter where you are from.  I wish I had been able to see the WWII memorial back when I was there, but oh well, maybe next time. ;)

You'd better be sure to go to the Air and Space museum.  You can touch a moon rock if you want... ;)

Been to the old one... it's the Udvar-Hazy center I'm interested in now. Finished work early tonight, so I may actually wake up in time to go over there.
