A taste of Popham

Postby Hagar » Tue Apr 10, 2007 4:01 am

Lots of lovely sunshine for the holiday weekend & the first fly-in of the season at Popham. The theme was Jodel & I've never seen so many of these pretty little cranked-wing aeroplanes (along with their younger siblings the Robins) in one place.

Landing on Runway 26 a is a little tricky as the approach is offset to avoid the service station on the A303 running alongside the airfield. (Daft place to put a service station. ::)) It's also bordered by tall trees which can make life interesting in a crosswind. I've tried to show some of the atmosphere of one of my favourite spots on the planet.

This is one way of doing it. Low & slow alongside Runway 21.

Then a gentle right turn onto the marks. Lovely. (I'll show you other methods later.)

On with the motley.

Of course there were plenty of other types as well to stop us getting bored. You can have too much of a good thing.

Very charming photos Doug. :)

I remember visiting Dorset when I used to have relatives there, we always passed Popham. I wish we had airfields like Popham and Compton Abbas up here in the north but, alas, we don't bar the odd one or two further south but there 'proper' venues who only hold fly-ins during normal airshow season time.

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!
