Three guess what will show in this thread...

Postby Omag 2.0 » Sat Mar 03, 2007 7:03 pm

My meager attempt on the natural spectacle tonight... all hope is gone once you don't own a DSLR, so much is clear...

My camera limits me to 8 sec with a 2.8 apperature and with the autofocus messing up on the slightly dark moon...

Oh well, I gave it a try...

Cheers,

My only consolidation is that I know that even the real camera's struggled...  ;D

Not bad at all.

My meager attempt on the natural spectacle tonight... all hope is gone once you don't own a DSLR, so much is clear...

It also helps if you have some idea of what you're doing. Here's my best attempt with my DSLR for what it's worth. Pathetic. ::)

2 to 4 seconds exposure and you avoid the natural movement of the earth. ISO 200 or 400. f-5.0 to 8 should be ok.

it's just starting to come out the other side of the shadow now, but I've had enough of standing in the garden freezing, so no more shots from me. I think you did well Kris, the second one in particular is nice, as it shows the colour beginning to be visble.

Looks like you got some movement from the shutter release Doug, as did a few others. I think the mirror on the SLR cameras can also cause some camera shake at low shutter speeds. I believe there should be an option to lock the mirror open so the camera doesn't get bounced around when the shutter is fired .......

The first "red moon" shot in this thread is taken at 4 sec. shuttertime, at f 2.8. But you clearly can see it's a lot darker than the 8 sec exposure. I allready thought that the movement of the moon could cause blurs, but I guess my main problem was the autofocussing... I have such great nights here in my backgarden, with hundreds of stars. How I wish I could capture that sight on camera...

I'll have mine up in a minute, I spent 10 seconds taking each shot to avoid movement from shutter release and it worked OK...I just got very cold ;)
