Fantasy of Flight- part 2

Postby beaky » Sun Feb 25, 2007 9:39 pm

An original Polikarpov PO-2... among the bravest pilots of WWII were the Russian ladies
of the "Night Witches", who harassed German infantry in these machines...

A very nice Ford Trimotor, in its original paint scheme as a flagship of TCA Airlines.
In 1956, this airplane lost its left engine in flight (it fell off!),
but landed safely.

An original 1918 Morane A-1.

Another rare original: astandard E-1, built in
Elizabeth, NJ, not far from where I live now.
A very rare Morane/Brock monoplane is seen hanging in the background...

The Bucker Jungmann, one of my faves. Legendary aerobatics trainer.

This gets better... an original Fokker DVIII!
http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/rotfof0206.JPGImage

Tried out my polarizing filter on this Stinson
Model T airliner... got rid of most of the reflections, but not all...
http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/rotfof0207.JPGImage

Another annoying gaffe: this is a real 1929 Vega, but it's not the real Winnie Mae...
I just don't get it, because this plane's true history is quite interesting in its own right.

A 1937 FW 44... never seen one of these before. Hey... what is that large
boat-like thing in the background? Hmmmm... ;)
http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/rotfof0209.JPGImage

A very nice Stampe in French Amy colors...

Next: more from the north hangar...

Hey wait a minute here. Where is the one with the plane sticking in the ground? Does that really exist or is that just in flight sim?  :-/

I am just a train fan who happens to like flying and attempting to get the better of the mods especially those with 20/20 vision ;D ;D

If you're talking about the DC-3 at the gate, it was set up originally in a crashed position with a dummy hanging from it as if a dead paratrooper, but after an outcry from many people, they set it up properly .
If you ask me, it's bad enough a  DC-3 is relegated to "gate guardian" status, but that's better than it being humiliated by being displayed in a mocking way... just not funny, in light of the incredible history of the DC-3.  >:(

Fascinating place. It's changed a lot since I visited.

Can't figure out why your thumbnails aren't working.

What do you mean about the thumbs?  Should that text not appear?  :-?

Forgot you said you'd been there; yes, they've been building. And acquiring more stuff... there's a huge warehouse across the road stuffed with bits and pieces, and more on the main grounds, which I'll get to in later photo posts.
This is a new location, in fact- maybe you were at the old one (in Miami)?

No we went to the new one in Polk County soon after it opened. That was something like 10 years ago, It looks very different now.

PS. Kermit Weeks' old place near Miami was wiped out by hurricane Andrew. It now seems to be back in business. Wings over Miami Air Museum

Duh... i see it now; didn't bracket the url correctly. Thanks a  million.  :-[

Yes, Andrew clobbered the old place, but didn't quite destroy everything. In fact, there's a very interesting survivor at Polk City... if you know, don't say yet... shhhhh.... ;)

A clear breach of the Geneva Convention!

LOL...Wouldn't surprise me if they did that... probably also dropped things along with the bombs that I won't describe in detail here... ;D
