You don't need this kind of equipment to get good pics, it helps quite a bit, but you can still do pretty well on less extravagant pieces as long as you know what you're doing, as several members prove in this section! ;) :)

So....any advice on some less extravagant pieces?

If you can't spend much then I would certainly advise you to try and pick up a 75-300 USM MKII, I started out doing this with that lens and it helped me get started and didn't fustrate me to the point of giving it up. Yes, the quality won't be perfect but for the price it's great.

Is there any difference between the USM MkII and the MkIII?

It's just I was going to get the MkIII....I assume its faily similar.

You see Typhoons over your house  :o
I'm lucky if the winds the right way then I see stuff going into Leeds/Bradford, sometimes the Yorkshire Air Ambulance or other heli's go over, nothing special.
Although I have seen at my grandparents house RAF Islanders, Beechcrafts and Hercs.

dont you whine :P some of us have it worse:P haha im lucky if i see the odd C150 over my rez building, usually a newby pilot student lost, or that the winds are blowin the wrong way or something... either way i dont see much here or back home in London (ontario :P ) hahaha

I used to get a Very low flyby every memorial and veterans day by a pair of F-15s at my old house.

within 100 feet of our roof, and we live nowhere near any cemetaries, damn that was cool, too bad we moved.

A new scheme for this year, perhaps? I liked last years, but it's always nice to have a change.

Doubt it. Money... Last year was meant to see a specially painted 207 Sqn 90th scheme - never happened - just the CFS display aircraft, which was just silver painted cheatlines rather than yellow...

Shame, we don't see enough colour from our RAF solos these days.

On a purely selfish note, having a nigh on totally black aircraft is a nightmare for decent flying photos, hence why I have next to no decent pics of the Tucano in display. A little colour certainly made the Hawk a little more interesting IMHO.

I get.....you guessed it....737s and A319s......right on the flightpath into Bristol Airport :D

I have seen the occasional chinook, hercules or merlin fly over though, and during RIAT if the wind is right we get the heavies descending over us (a B52 this year :D)
