Blasted manual...

Postby Gunny04 » Wed Dec 27, 2006 10:25 pm

Okay, I need some photo help. What the heck are aperture and Shutter settings for? (I cant read my manual, its in french go figure, no english) I have a general idea of what they do, but I dunno how to imply how to use them etc. I have an HP 945, and the only manuals I can find are on disk (I hate disk manuals) My camera is fully 100% manual just about. Its a point and shoot, a step or two below a DSLR

Cheers, Gunny

Aperture setting is the size of the "hole" that let's light through while the shutter is open. Shutter (speed) is how long the shutter stays open during exposure.

Apertures are usually listed as

Its a point and shoot, a step or two below a DSLR

Two steps... correct order is:
Point-and-shoot
Rangefinder
(D)SLR

Not sure about that. From what I can see the HP 945 is one step down from a DSLR. The main differences (drawbacks) being that the lens cannot be changed & it has an electronic viewfinder, which is a smaller version of the LCD screen familiar with digicams. It's very similar to my Fuji S5000.

The HP 945 was the first of this type of camera on the market & is no longer manufactured. Like others in the same range it can be used fully Auto or with optional manual settings. You can get a very good idea of how to use it by reading the many reviews posted on the web. Here's a couple to go on with.

These are in the same category.

Kodak EasyShare DX6490

Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10
Toshiba PDR-M700
