Spotting at N40-part 6 (last)

Postby beaky » Tue Dec 12, 2006 6:45 pm

All good things must come to an end...

Another look at that scruffy old Cherokee...

And a later cousin, the Arrow...

Finally- absolute proof that there was, in fact, a second shooter on the grassy knoll...  :D

(that's James, BTW... he learns quickly!) ;)

And last but not least, one of the two forlorn Beriev 103s that seem doomed to sit on the ramp here forever...

If that's the last post from this trip.. I hope you're going spotting again soon..

Some nostalgic moments for me in these posts. I took my intro-flight in a brand new Cruiser.. and my very first complex time was in an Arrow (same paint job)..

Great stuff.. Thanks..

You three make a great team...of course I am including Peg in this..... :)

Anything wrong with the BE 103s or are they too expensive to fly as bug smashers?

If it is not too inconvenient fellas can you post what is on the food menu so we can compare the food names to some of the other flying clubs we drop into?

Looking forward to your next spotting.  :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

The airport owner(?) is a Beriev dealer...the Beriev dealer...

Beriev has signed an agreement naming Kent Linn, of Sky Manor Airport in Pittstown NJ, as exclusive North American distributor for Beriev Be-103.
The agreement was signed in September at the Gelendzhik 2000 Hydroaviation Salon. Mr Linn is looking into several shipping and assembly options including installing US made engines and avionics and German propellor at Sky Manor's facilities in New Jersey. "

From what I've heard he's been trying to unload two or three of these for some time.
Don't think there's anything wrong with them per se; could just be unpopular because of relative lack of qualified service, parts, etc.
Or maybe there's just not much of a market for them in the US right now...

Can't really compete in, say, the Lake Renegade or old SeaBee market, although clearly the Be103 is a lot more airplane, somewhat in a class by itself nowadays, with so few of the old Grumman amphibs flying. Most likely substitute for a plane like this would be a big Cessna on floats, but those aren't twins, without the twin's advantages.

What I hear could be unfounded rumor; he may be selling quite a few and these are just demo units he keeps around N40. Whatever- I think it's an interesting design with a lot of potential. Just haven't seen one of these Berievs fly yet...

Check above link for specs, etc.
