Perfect Sunday for flying: bonus: 47N spotting

Did a little quality spotting during my down time at 47N Sunday... enjoy.


A gorgeous "Superhawk"; new to me.

As you can see, they've torn the place up, adding improved drainage and eventually a bunch of new hangars. Once they fill the potholes in the taxiways and ramps, this place will be on a whole new level, but still a nice friendly airport. Cheap fuel, too- down to $3.75/gal. now for 100LL.

Not wild about the color scheme on this Cardinal, but it's an impressive Cessna.

Very nice Sean. It looks like they're doing the same at 47N as they are at N85. The whole west end of the airfield is getting torn up for the same reason; drainage and more tie-downs. I'm not quite sure why the more tie-down part though, as the current one only usually has only one Cherokee and maybe one of their shiny new IFR 182s. Kind of makes me wonder if when I start flying, the prices will be a bit higher to help pay for it, or if the project is funded by the state or county government.

Maybe... but the improvements should bring in more revenue, so they may not have to increase their prices.
The airport will be a little bit more crowded, though... ;D

I knew there was something different about that Mooney. Never seen one with fixed gear. Must be a pretty rare bird. Look what I found. 8) ;)

Yes, I've never seen a "down and welded" Mooney before, either... I wonder how many are still flying?

There are a few interesting planes based at 47N, but another bonus is that they have self-serve cheap fuel there, so it is a popular pit stop for aircraft from all over.

Glad there is still some interest left in general aviation, the repairs, are the costs covered by the taxpayer or is there private money involved?

Here we are having a hard time getting any money out of small town councils, large city councils and the taxpayer for any repairs to airfields unless they are in major cities. :(   :(   :(

Some interesting shots of some wonderful aircraft as well. ;)

Good question.
It's a privately-owned public-use field. There is a small corporation of owners who have raised the money for the improvements. It's possible they get a little something-something from the state, although I'm not sure. They can certainly write off much of the cost for tax purposes...

Neat photos !  I love little airports..  Just got back from a day of hopping around a few in southern Ohio. I was talking to a few guys at Vinton County (22I) who were there volunteering. It amazes me (bothers me) that counties that budget for, and maintain hundreds of miles of road... can't budget for and maintain, what amounts to, 3/4 miles of road (runway) that hardly sees any traffic and a couple of buildings.

Then we stopped at Highland County (KHOC) and saw the opposite. A booming little airport; same size, same rural-type economy/community.. that was obviously WELL budgeted.. Funny thing though.. They weren't near as friendly..
