No tower, no Clearance Delivery... just have to stay below 850 MSL for a bit (very unlikely to be cleared thru the Class B right under the approaches), then below 1500, then we're free as birds.
You will see later in the return-trip pics just how close KLDJ is to KEWR.
What a gorgeous clear day! wow!! And almost no wind. Very smooth ride. that is the Raritan River, I believe, in its home stretch to Lower New York Bay ... we're headed south in this picture.
Too bad about the cloudy plexiglass... a very old ferry boat and some sort of huge yacht, somewhere near the river in the Amboys, I guess... got to see if I can find them on Google Earth, 'cuz I'd like to try to drive down there for a closer look. I notice a lot more when I'm riding as a passenger, but I then tend to forget to note where we are at any given time...
A good shot of the panel: Garmin 435, Storm Scope, etc. Very nice.
Rodrigo has just engaged the AP, indicated by the blue and yellow lights on the turn coordinator. It can be slaved to the GPS, but it doesn't do very well. It's a stock Cessna AP, and they're thinking of replacing it- and the others- with something made by people who only make avionics (can't remember which they were thinking of).
Trenton/Robbinsville Airport:
Turning to final at South Jersey Regional. A bit too long a final for my taste, but perfectly alright. Rodrigo made a nice landing, and we piled out to hit the restaurant.
