D-Day tour (Part 1)

Postby TSC. » Mon Sep 18, 2006 1:58 pm

Hi all,

Just got back from another trip to northern France, this time to visit the D-Day landing beaches & make our way into Belgium see The Last Post at the Menin Gate.

The more you see here, the more you feel you need to pay your respects to the men who fought for our freedom.

Our first stop was Pointe Du Hoc, where US Rangers had the unenviable task of scaling a 100 meter high cliff before even being able to 'take out' the German guns covering the Utah & Omaha beaches.

Looking down into a formidable German bunker:

Looking back out of the bunker:

What is now left of a German Gun post:

Huge chunks of re-enforced concrete that have been left after the bombardment:

A memorial to the United States Second Infantry Division - near Omaha beach:

Thanks for looking,

TSC.

Very impresive place.

That 3# shot is just like those bunkers in COD2.

Almost as if the researchers had been there! :) I noticed the very same thing, both there, and another battery along the coast. :)
