TOB2006: Thunderbirds are GO!!

Postby beaky » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:24 am

My Blue Angels shots ain't so hot (although I did get some decent video); so I'll leave that to Corey. But have a look at these T-Birds shots; it was my first time seeing them, and their third time performing at the same show as the Navy team. They were amazing!!

I was wondering why the big gap...

They're quite good aren't they.

You didn't get any pictures of #5 doing his manuever.  When I saw, he did it at least twice, but he would pull the plane vertical, and use the rudder and ailerons to spin the plane while traveling upwards, truly a display of mastering the Fighting Falcon.

Not enough zoom for me to get that- when that puppy goes vertical, it's gone, esp. when the sun is overhead.
Yes, they are quite good. ;D

Excellent shots Rotty. ;)

So, who's better (in your opinion), the Thunderbirds, or the Blue Angels? ;D

Man thats like comparing apples and oranges!!  Basically, you cant say that one is better than the other because they simply exemplify the best things about their respective branches that they represent.  Their styles of flying within the diamond and delta are very different although it may not look to be that way.  Its very technical and it would take me a good page to describe it, and all the kids on here would have their brains explode trying to understand it.

As far as the actual show goes, the Thunderbirds definitely show a little bit more power maneuvers in their show while the Blues show a bit more grace with more formation rolling maneuvers.

So in answer to your question, the Thunderbirds are the best...err...Air Force team, and the Blues are the..err..best Navy and Marine team.

Better make that the best US Air Force & US Navy/Marine team. ;)

Let's just say the Thunderbirds put on a better show last Wednesday.  The Blue Angels put on a good show but the T-Birds were awesome.

Just returned to AZ from the Atlantic City Airshow. Having seen the Thunderbirds countless times, they put on the smoothest demonstration I've ever seen. The Blue Angels were fabulous but the Thunderbirds were awesome.
Not sure if anyone was there for the practice on Tuesday, but there was a Blue Angel in the back seat of one of the Thunderebird Solos and also the Thunderbird Slot. The same for the Blue Angel practice, a Thunderbird in the back seat of the Blue Angel
