jones beach airshow finale-the Blue Angels!

Not too many here; my camera was fading. I had to revive it for each shot... and it often failed to wake up at the right moment.

So let's say you're at a Blue Angels performance, and you'd like to take some pretty pictures. The question often is: where to point the camera? This shot gives you an idea of what it's like half the time (for those who've never seen such a display).
They like to fool you, too- while you're watching a high-speed head-on pass or something at show center, one or two others will slip off into the next county for a moment and come roaring back in at 90 degrees to show center, at treetop level!! Gotcha!!!

First, Fat Albert, the Angels' stalwart companion, does its own display...  nice and low for a good look-see. "Hey hey hey..."
Gotta love ol' Fat Albert. :)

There being no runway, they nixed the JATO demo, but dropped gear and flaps for a simulated STOL takeoff... here it is just rotating into a very vertical pop-up to about 1000. Note the prop tip contrails... first time I've captured that! Hoo-rah!!
The weird clouds in the background are fading letters from the Skytypers, hard at work about 10,000 feet overhead.

This is where my camera started shutting down... wah. But I did get a few decent snaps.
Honestly, they're so fast and use up so much room, I probably wouldn't have gotten much more even with fresh batteries...

I will be posting various low-quality video clips of the show on YouTube in the near future, but you can buy an official DVD thru this website:

That last shot is the best part of their routine.

Going across the show at only 100kts or something, tilted back 45 degrees.  Really left an impression for me.
