Old German Bicycle

Postby beaky » Mon May 08, 2006 4:44 pm

I've tried to curb my trash-picking impulses in recent years, but it must bein my blood... every now and then I see something I can't resist.
So even though I already have a "rescued" bike that needs fixing up and putting together, when I saw this while walking Peg today, I had to grab it from alongside a dumpster (not in the dumpster... :P ). I'm trying to find out more about it...

It's an old folding bike, missing front wheel and fender, and one of the cranks is bent, but I think I can get it rolling again.  It's a "fixie", so at least I don't have to deal with any cables, calipers, or derailleurs.
Who knows? It might be worth something.

Mfr. is the Star company...the model is the "Super Deluxe". ;D
Must've been real flashy when new: chrome and candy-apple red with nice white pinstriping. It's not necessarily a ladies' frame; folding bikes usually don't have a top tube like a typical mens' bike.

Made in "Western Germany". Which dates it at pre-1989... but I cannot find any info on the Web on this bike or even the mfr. Anybody seen one of these before?

I think it might be pre-80s because of the saddle... rubber on top of springs; no foam. Of course the saddle is from a different mfr (Mertens), so who knows?

Nice find.  A gentleman at work that is really into bikes and is restoring a fold-up bike now.  I'll show him the pictures in this post and see if he can help.
