My Weekend (Pt 1)

Postby TSC. » Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:38 pm

Hi all,

This weekend I popped over to Northern France with a couple of friends. We have been over to visit the World War 1 battlefields & some of the memorials.

Based in Arras for a couple of days we managed to visit a few of the more famous areas of the Somme.

This is the South African memorial at Delville Wood (Devils Wood):

This tree is the only surviving tree in Delville Wood from the 1st World War:

The stone placed in front of the tree:

Next, the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Cheers,

I look forward to the pictures TSC I did the rounds of the WW1 battlefields and grave yards with my history class at school. A moving experience. I remember that one in your photos very well. It was a very cold very windy and snowy day when we visited. wind chill of somthing like -21*s C

We did a school excursion once to the excellent Ypres museum. Maybe one of the best WW1 museums in Belgium
