Better down here than up there: 47N

Waaaayylll, I had 7QJ booked for a nice little round-robin flight today; first time flying in about a month... fine, sunny day. Gusty wind out of the NW, but expected to die down, so I drove out to have a look.
As of my planned departure time, no improvement. Doesn't look so bad here, but it was shifting. look at the flag in the second picture... had to be at least 15 knots right across the runway, with heavier gusts. If I was just going from A to B, and B had a runway into the wind, I'd deal with it, even in a 152. But I'd planned three stops, all at airports with E-W or NE-SW runways, and I'd be battling (reported) turbulence the whole way. Uh... no thanks.

There were a few of the usual suspects hanging around the FBO, doing exactly what I decided to do: gossiping and telling airplane stories and wating to see if anyone was brave enough to try using the runway. we were not disappointed, and being the cruel, sadistic bastard I am ( ;D ), I took pictures...
Here's a very nice SP departing; he got off OK.

Shortly another 172 arrived, battling its way down the glideslope.

After some fancy bobbling over the threshold, he made a pretty good landing, although tottering a bit during the rollout as the wind waffled and gusted. I'm not criticizing, believe me: you will note that I had no desire to try this in 7QJ!

So do I. Especially when I'm sitting on a bench, as opposed to inside an airplane... ;D
