E3 at EGNT...

Postby F3Hadlow » Tue Jan 24, 2006 8:38 am

Shot this E3 on finals last week. The quality isn't superb but the shutter speed was 1/60th on a grey day and I was using manual focus on a subject about 7 miles away...

1/60th of a second on a lens long enough to pull in an acceptable image like that......?
What lens did you shoot that with...?
I wonder how close the 7 mile guess is, when I know the general rule of thumb is to shoot with a shutterspeed equal to the mm of focal length, in thousanths of a sec......

Nice shot in any event......... 8)

.....not picking, just making an observation, drawn from over 30 yrs of photography...... :)

Cheers guys :)

What lens did you shoot that with...?

I shot that with a 300mm F4 with a 1.5x Converter attached and a 2x Converter. Having this many converters attached resulted in the loss of autofocus and a very high aperture meaning the shutter speeds were very slow.

I wonder how close the 7 mile guess is, when I know the general rule of thumb is to shoot with a shutterspeed equal to the mm of focal length, in thousanths of a sec......

I've heard that rule before and to be honest I've never really understood it, doesn't appear to be relevant to me personally.
