Update on the house we are building

Postby Triple_7 » Sat Jan 21, 2006 1:39 am

Its been awhile since the last set.  Quite a bit has been done and its getting closer and closer to being finished.  Still a lot of outside work to be done but it can wait till spring :P

First of all here is a link to the first set taken back in October.  To bad todays weather wasn't like that beautiful day :P http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1129679927

There are a few changes though.  Its accualy only a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom.  What we thought was a small bedroom is really a study :P

Tried to keep them somewhat in order as to then and now ;)  Here is the front.  Only a few things have changed.  Some of that main roof was replaced about 2 weeks after the first shots.  That nice day gave way to colder weather and the shingles never got a chance to seel well.  A lovely storm with winds gusting to 70+ mph and hail hit the area.  That roof was nearly ripped completely apart.  One area even lost part of the plywood :o  Theres still a few shingles laying in the mud but the back yard is where the real disaster still lies.
Image
Side looking pretty good now.  By the time that storm had hit all the windows and doors were in and we had quite a bit of the vinyl siding done.  This side took quite a beating...lost part of the siding, the upstairs and bottom left windows were blown out.  That bloody storm left us a huge mess to clean up.  Unfortunatly the weather only gave us a couple of pleasent days to work in :-/
Image
No longer do we walk into that bare skeleton.  Now all the wires, heating, and most of the plumbing has been ran.  Almost half the drywall is hung and things are moving along smoothly now.  I was one of the 2 people who ran nearly all of the wire...and let me tell you these people are obsesed with outlets and switches.  Its going to take forever to accualy connect them all.  The master bedroom alone has 10 outlets, 5 switches, and a couple of other misc cables.
Image
A view of the back from the same place only from ground level.  There will be shutters on all the windows, but the cold moved us inside before we could get them up.
Image
Living room.  Youll have to excuse the mess.  We arent exactly the most organized of people right now.  Especialy since we dragged stuff in to save those many trips out into the 2-3

Looks great. I really like the design: having the garage around the back gives you lots of room for that big front porch. Four bathrooms?! Wow.
BTW, have fun wiring all of those devices... somehow I get the feeling there are a lot of 3-way switch circuits in this one... always a good time... ;D

Looks good.  Seems you're getting to that point where you can't find you're way around anymore, because you can't walk through the walls. ;D  Okay, maybe you don't get lost, but it still is a strange feeling once drywall is up. :) ;)

I like how its layed out as well.  But I would deffinatly change some of the inside features :-X  The wiring will be quite fun to connect.  There is a lot of 3 ways and other confusing switches.  Only thing I hate is only 2 of us know how to hook them up so we will be stuck with the job :-[  I really dont look forward to it, theres just so many ::)

It is kind of strange to walk inside now.  The insulation was just finished last Friday and so all that drywall (wall wise...most ceilings were already done) was put up just this week ;)  And it does get a little confusing as far as some areas.  Its not NOT knowing your way around, its just that walking through the walls for so long does kind of disorient me now that i cant.  Plus we can no longer throw tools to each other like we used to.  Accualy have to walk around to the person now :P

And the house was sold before we even started ;)  Basicaly the homeowners contracted the vocational school to build their house.  So the only thing they have to pay is the material cost and nothing else.  I accualy got to personaly meet the homeowners before i took these shots.  I was there to pick up some drywall scraps after school to help me in my own house (rewiring and have a few holes to fill)  They are really nice people, told me to take anything i needed from the leftovers, they even invited me to have supper with them sometime 8)  So its quite an interesting situation.  There is litteraly a waiting list of about 5-6 years of people wanting their house built by the school.  Considering with no labor cost they are saving like 25-30 grand, i would gladly wait a couple extra years  ;)  There is accualy 2 classes and 2 houses being built, and if they could find another teacher there would probably be 3 since there is so many people interested.  I got the chance to see the other house a few weeks ago.  It is about 1/2 the size as this one and doesnt have a basement or 2nd floor.  But that class also has about an hours worth of driving every day to get there.  So we have about twice the work time :)  Next time I am out there I will grab a couple pics of it.  Its the same colors as ours but its a really interesting layout and design ;)

So anyways...Open house will be sometime in late May.  There will be plenty of pics of the finished work.  The really detailed woodwork will be starting in a few weeks ;)  Hopefully all goes well and it will be there for many decades to come :)

dude, s3's are a breeze. just remember; hots and legs always go to the common (black screw marked "common"), and travelers go to the copper screws. s4's; just put the travelers from the hot end on the two common's (marked "input") and the other two travelers on the copper screws. message me if you have a question about something and i'll be happy to help; i'm an electrical contractor.  btw, i recommend leviton devices; cooper are decent, P&S are a POS.  :)

Oh and also, make sure those darn electricians clean up after themselves, so us carpenters don't have to waste an hour cleaning up after them. ;D ;)

yeh. . .right. . .its the electricians who leave scrap lumber laying EVERYWHERE!!!! ;D   Not to mention stray nails and loose roofing braces that could give at any moment when you're pulling wire through an attic.   :P

We may make a mess, but at least we clean it up, along with the plumber's mess, heating guy's mess, the insulator's mess......;D
