winter randoms #3: central park safari

Had some time to kill yesterday and I was near the park, so I thought I'd mosey over there and take some photos...

Cold. The pond is frozen. This is not a haiku:

Unlike their country cousins, these squirrels are practically tame, and will come right up to you sometimes, looking for a handout:

Sorry, little dude... ain't got nothin' for ya:

Just barely got a shot of this (moulting?) cardinal: "Wait, I got something-crunch!- aw nuts, another ball bearing..." ;D

Not too many takers for a carriage ride today- must've been two dozen horses standing around waiting:

The guy is a new-yorker... they like to act arty...  ;D

Man, if I saw that kind of tail on my cat, I'd be running, cause she'd be seriously p*ssed off! I hope that squirrel didn't jump on you a second later!

Lovely bird, the cardinal!

Kodak DX7590... not  a bad camera for the money.

The cardinal was shot at full optical zoom (about 7X), from a distance of maybe 15 feet. Then I cropped it.

Nah... squirrels are usually on high alert- the tail is often puffed-out and twitching. But if they're feeling aggressive, they'll really get the tail moving, then they'll make that nasty squirrel-noise. But if their "opponent" is bigger than they are, they'll usually do so from a safe place- like up in a tree. ;D
This one was cautiously approaching me... saw I had no goodies, so he crossed the path to another tree (after posing very nicely for me).
