Autunm Airshow

Postby HawkerTempest5 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:12 pm

My cordless mouse packed in last night ::), so here are some of the shots I did not get posted yesterday. Various aircraft from the Duxford Autumn airshow.

OK, that's the lot then. I have plenty more static shots though so if anyone is interested I may post some another day :)

Outstanding shots Tempest. Shot #8 of the Spit line definitely my favourite. :)

Very nice Roger. I still think they would look a lot better if they were a tad bigger. ;)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Well I think it's a tad too light, should be more like US Navy dark blue and the underside should be RAF Azure blue, but I have to admit I do quite like it. :)

I like it too. You're outvoted Charlie. :P :D

PS. As for the shade of blue, I don't expect those matelots were too worried about that or how carefully they slapped it on. They probably used whatever they had in the stores at the time or even mixed their own.

Legend has it that they were painted aboard the USS Wasp with thinned down US Navy dark blue but what that looked like over the standard RAF desert scheme I guess we will never know. I do like blue Spitfires though :)

Just to mix it up again, I'm with Charlie, maybe it's the brown panel behind the BM597, it just looks a bit half hearted....... :(

I think blue could be a great colour, it just needs to look like they really mean it

The brown panel is authentic and it was all a bit half hearted back then. The real aircraft was finished in RAF Desert scheme of mid stone, dark earth and they simply masked off the serial number when they painted them blue on the USS Wasp. When the masking was removed it left a brown panel with the serial number in it so they got that bit and the brown antenna mast spot on. The only thing they missed was the azure blue underside.

Fair enough Roger, consider me slapped down  ;)

So I'm not authentic, I still think an all over blue could be great, just not that blue....
