trust me, round birmingham alot of the motorways are in bad shape and made of concrete, bumps for 10 miles hitting those at 80mph makes for miles of blurred vision and required dental work ;D Its a nice car, but softer suspension is definatly required, thus i wouldn't buy the sport version but one of the others.
I am not sure if the Golf is avaliable in the US but i would imagine it would become popular if it were, with gas being so expensive.

Not sure about that either. The only VW I know of that is certainly avaiable in the states is the "Jetta", which is actually a Bora, but then again now officially named Jetta.
Methinks a good market for the Gold would be big cities and "green" states, like Boston and California.

The Golf iis in fact available here... lots and lots of them on the road. A friend who livrs in my building drives an old Golf (GT?). Been on the US market for a long time- over 20 yrs., I believe.
Lots of Jettas too, including the "new Beetle" which is basically a Jettaa chassis and drivetrain with a Beetle-esque body on top.
