Darn it...! Missed again ....

.... or words to that effect. Whatever made me take up this hobby? It can be so frustrating at times. ???
I must be a masochist. Perfect conditions & a wonderful show but some aircraft seem determined to elude me. Either I mess it up or some stoopid idiot decides to get in the way just as I press the button. ::)
I dug these out from the Recycle Bin. If I pretend they're supposed to be like this maybe they're not so bad after all. ;)

After seeing it displayed at 3 Old Warden shows this year I have yet to get a decent shot of the Avro 504. :-[Image

Same goes for the SE.5a. ::)
Image

Ah, here's the Avro 19 (aka the civil Anson). First time I've seen this one fly.* Darn it - missed again. Sometimes I think I'll never get the hang of this lark. :'(
Image

Not to worry, I'll catch it when it lands. Oops...! Who put that bloomin' great mast in the way? >:(
Image

Now this is a very rare sight. Don't mess it up for goodness sake. Blast it......! ::)
Image

Almost (but not quite) the best shot I've taken this year.
Image

Don't mention the Spitfire. Never did get a decent shot of that. ::) Maybe I was trying too hard. Never mind, better luck next season, I hope. Practice makes perfect they tell me. Well, nobody said it was going to be easy did they? No fun in that is there. ;)

*PS. I've actually seen that Anson lots of times. This machine used to belong to Meridian Airmaps at Shoreham when I worked for the flying club next door back in the '60s. It was flown by the late Jackie Moggridge.

AH yes Doug, but of all those wonderful cockpit area closeups in the air, you never wasted or paid for any film....

Nice pics! ;)
The final Beautiful Blue Sky photo definately looks Mediteranean. Wish I could get shots of the sky like that here in Inverness, Doug! ::)

That photo was taken 2 weeks ago at Old Warden in Bedfordshire. It was just the same the previous day at Duxford, Cambridgeshire when I got more blue sky photos than aeroplanes. Conditions were perfect all weekend but you might have noticed the lack of photos I posted of this event. One of those days when nothing went right & I felt like packing it all in & taking up a more sensible hobby like knitting. ::) ;)

Anson #2 photo (the mast): I had never realized how tiny the landing gear looks on the Anson.

It seems a real airplane with a case of atrophied landing gear.

Now you come to mention it those wheels do look a tad undersized. The Anson was the first ever aircraft in RAF service with a retractable undercarriage. 200 turns on a handwheel I believe. ;)

PS. I think the later Ansons like this one have either electric or hydraulically operated gear.

I understand that one (not officially sanctioned) method of extending the u/c on the F4F Wildcat was to unlock the gear crank/wheel and give a quick jerk back on the control stick in a shallow dive - just enough to overcome the initial inertia and the gear would extend - you just had to make sure that neither your hand nor any body part was near that spinning wheel!

This is the sort of shot I got nine times out of ten with my old Sony digital. What is impressive is the clarity of these shots. Can't wait to get to an airshow to try my new camera.
