Some Warbirds

Postby Mr. Bones » Tue Aug 31, 2004 1:22 pm

Because I'm bored right now but also because I know you guys like this kind of aircraft, I post some warbirds photos here. They were taken at the Air Tattoo earlier this summer. All of them are taken with the Canon Digital Rebel using the EF-S 18-55 lens.
Enjoy...

Really nice Bones. I love the Jug & it makes a change to see a different Mustang. Two Dakotas is a rare sight these days. :o Lovely stuff. :D

I can see you won't take much converting from those airliners to proper aeroplanes. :P ;)

PS. Check out the Flying Farmer. I had the pleasure of meeting him on my last visit. You won't believe what he can do with a Piper Cub.

a friend of Ozzy's?

I wouldn't know about that. He must be getting on now, heck he looked old when I met him some years ago. I'm pleasantly surprised to see he's still flying. My advice is to catch him while you can. Old Rhinebeck is a must for any vintage aircraft enthusiast.

PS. I have a raincheck ticket somewhere if anyone is interested. (Don't go on a windy day as they can't fly the vintage stuff.) It would save you the $8 entry fee (it might be more now but not expensive). It would cost me considerably more to get there. ;)

Hiya Doug. I went to the Rhinebeck Fair years ago when I was younger. I saw nothing but overgrown tomatoes and a bunch of farm animals!  :P

I didn't even know that existed. Maybe I will take a trip sometime soon. Thanks for the info! They had an air show here on Long Island last summer. It was the first time at Calverton Airport. Unfortunately I was away at the time of the event but the promoter said he would not be doing it again. He had too much logistical and town permit problems. Seems that there wasn't enough parking for the thousands of un-expected aviation enthusiasts on the Island! Hopefully it will return as it was all in all a huge success!! Too bad so many people could not get in and had to watch the show from the Long Island Expressway!  :o

Great shots, I love the Thunderbolt. Sadly the P-51 "Miss Helen" suffered an engine faliure on the way home from RIAT and had to make a wheels up landing. Thankfully the pilot was unhurt and walked away, but that's another Mustang gone from UK skies :'(
