RAFA2004 Pt VIII

Postby Hagar » Mon Aug 30, 2004 2:47 pm

Now for something a little different. I arrived bright & early on Saturday morning. It's nice to wander around while it's still quiet & take a few leisurely shots. These were all taken with my old camera. I'm used to it now & it's still ideal for static shots.

I bumped into my old friend Jim Pearce & had an interesting chat. Jim is a well-known local aircraft restorer who specialises in retrieving warbirds from Eastern Europe. His beautifully restored L-4 Grasshopper is original WWII vintage & has quite a history.

Ah, the familiar sound of the Utterly Butterly team arriving.

Here's Chris Margiotta, the RAF Harrier GR7 display pilot. I met him a couple of weeks ago during the Eastbourne display. These chaps are always surrounded by pretty women. The uniform never fails. ;)

Later on I tracked down the all-important beer tent. Shepherd & Neame brew the famous Spitfire ale. The company is main sponsor for this year's show.
Image

Hmm. Who's this? That beer must be stronger than I thought. :o ::)
Image

I took this after the show had finished. Doesn't Shoreham look nice in the evening sunshine. Reminds me of the old days.
Image

This was taken on Sunday afternoon. It was a tad blustery & a young chap sat on the tail of MH434 to steady it while it was taxying downwind. This reminded me of the WAAF who got a ride during WWII when the pilot took off with her still on the back. Fortunately she survived to tell the tale. :o ;)
Image

I tried this to save memory on the new camera. Don't think I would have got it with the new one anyway. It turned out to be one of my best shots of the whole weekend. The old camera still has its uses. :)

Great shots, H.

I'm getting too used to Shoreham photos showing the cathedral in the background that if it isn't there, I wonder if it really is Shoreham!

Love that penultimate shot Doug ;)
The question is how much refueling did you do at the bar? ;D ;D ;D

Do you think she gave him a ride in return?  ;)

Thanks Alrot. You read the wrong caption. I was talking about Stan & Ollie (Laurel & Hardy) driving past in the next shot. ;)

Ah, but is that the new uniform or the old "RAC Man" uniform? ;)

The least said about that the better. ::)
I was referring to the smart black flying suits the RAF star display pilots wear. ;)
