My New Toy

Postby BE58D » Thu Jan 29, 2004 11:16 pm

Before you view the pic... Let me give a bit of history behind it all.

When I was about 13 years old (I am now 31 years old), my father got me my 1st radio controlled airplane.  After that, my sisters', boyfriends' father became interested in them (we lived next to one another).  This last December, he (sisters', boyfriends' father) passed away.  I inherited his radio controlled airplanes, and all the goodies to go with them...

So, here is a picture of my new toy (yes, this was taken in my bedroom)...
Image
The airplane is a Piper J-3 Cub, 1/4th scale, manufactured by Great Planes.

I need to finish up some little details on the model itself, and then cover it... and she is ready to go!

To sum up the size of the aircraft in relation to the 1/4th scale...
  • The fuselage is 5 ft. long
  • The wingspan is 7 1/2 ft. long
  • The engine is a four-cycle, size 80 (13 c.c.)
The downside to the airplane... it is a real pain to get it in and out of my front door!  ;D

Want me to finish it and fly it for you...?....

I had the smaller size and built it as a clipped wing version....mine flew behind a Saito .50 four-stroke......separate servos for the ailerons.......12 oz fuel for about 50 mins of runtime per flight.......

.....I have another one to build, once I get off here for about four months ..........

This is what mine looked like when it was in good condition..........

.....and here is the real one I modelled mine after.........

Hope you get your cub finished...I am sure it will be a lot of fun to fly. :)

Hey Rifleman I was admiring your models there...they look great by the way.  I was wondering where you are having your picture taken....is that the length of the grass that you fly from or do you hand launch or fly those off a hard surface?
I would surmise that one could add/purchase larger tires for any kit and I have seen them fly off the river here on floats.  Have never seen a model on amphibious floats. :)

Cheers...Happy Landings....Doug

Nice try!  ;D

Yeah, mine has two seperate servos for the ailerons also.  You got some mighty nice looking airplanes there Rifleman.

I am thinking about putting a 16 oz. fuel tank in mine.

My engine is an O.S. Max... I just love the instructions though... the whole thing is in Japanese (except the two pictures)!

Congrats Fly2e (and Ozzy)... The plus side to models, as opposed to children... If you break them, you can usually glue them back together! Break a kid... and Child Protective Services get called!
