KNEW Airpower Expo '14

Postby beaky » Thu Nov 13, 2014 9:27 am

I hadn't planned any aviation-related activities on my recent trip, but needless to say, when I was inside my buddy's house in New Orleans and heard the unmistakeable drone of four very large radials, I ran outside for a look. It was a B-29... the B-29, there being only one in the world that is currently airworthy.
We.nt online to see why it would be flying back and forth at low level over NOLA, and discovered that it was visiting as part of a smallish warbird fly-in at Lakefront, where I hadn't been since my first visit to NOLA, landing there in a 172 back in 2000.
Hopped on the motorcycle and sped over there the next day to check it out. I didn't take many airplane pics, as most of the ships on display were surrounded five deep with onlookers. But there were other things to pique my interest, like this gorgeous old CB750 in the parking lot...

And this immaculately-restored HD hack in the WWII re-enactment area.

One of the best fly-in photos I've ever taken... and it's the tail end of an old Plymouth, lol. But dig that vintage license plate!!

...and oh yeah, Fifi was there... I saw them clearing people from a very large space by the flight line, and waited patiently until she landed from a revenue joy ride and was towed in for static display. What a joy and an honor to see this beauty in full operation!

Nice to see the old Honda 750 Four, Sean....

Looks like the original K1 model, (rather than the K2 version), and fitted with an after-market exhaust system.

We see lots of them, still happily running around, over here!

Long-lasting old Dogs, when the Japs showed us how to build proper Bikes that everyone actually wanted!!
