My first 2 flights DC-6 and a Constellation

Postby OldAirmail » Mon May 20, 2013 8:34 pm

When I was a wee thing we flew from the southwest to Laguardia. From there we flew to London.

I'm almost certain that my first plane was a DC-6.

It was a night flight, and after a long train ride to get to the airport I slept like a baby. A 3 1/2 year old baby, that is. Unfortunately, I remember very little about that flight.

Boarding planes back then was a little different than it is now.

The second flight, from Laguardia to London was also a night flight, but we boarded in daylight. And THIS ONE I do remember. Mostly.

I remember looking up at all those stairs and wanting to climb it all the way up. Unfortunately one step at a time was a little to slow for the other passengers. After a few steps I was carried up. :(

This, of course, was not my flight. But it's interesting.

Even more interesting is being a little boy with a window seat and seeing the engines on fire!

I kept looking around to see if anyone else knew that the plane was on fire. Nobody looked upset, so after a while I fell asleep. :D
