CFS1 graphics issues

It runs, but I am unfortunately observing certain graphics artifacts. Such as invisible 2d panel (gauges are still visible), grey square for gunsight in virtual cockpit, white squares for mussle flashes and explosions.
Is there a way to fix this?
I am using ATI 4870 with Catalyst 8.12.
P.S.: also the engine sound on the external views is missing...
