CFS1 War Stories

Since Ive been reading many pages in the Forum there is not yet a topic dedicated to the trials and tribulations of the die hard CFS1 pilot of any airforce in the game. We all hear the downloads and problems so lets hear the stories of those who went through hell to get those pixel wings!

Some years back I got heavy into fighter aircraft of the 1930s. Those aircraft were fairly well armed and very, very maneuverable. Anyway, I got into a dogfight in Quick Combat with an I-15 I downloaded form the old "Die Staffel" web site. I think I was flying a He-51, from the same site. I must of chased that "Chato" for about twenty minutes! Twisting, turning, rolling, Split S....the whole nine yards. Trying to stay behind that bird for a kill shot took all I had! I wasn't going to let my machne get the best of me! Finally I hit that I-15 enough times that I knew I had her and watched her crash under me. Best dogfight I'd ever been in.

Mine don't usually take that long but I have mentioned my more humorous twist of reality some time ago in one of these forums (others here have admitted similar). I had a couple Germans on my tail and was flying just above the deck when, suddenly, "Oh, God!" there was a tree. In immediate response I'd come off of my chair, now trying to keep myself and the tipped chair from completely falling to the floor and stop from crashing my plane, as well (I kept it in the air -- barely -- and righted the chair with my other hand and hip). 
Also, when I'm in serious mode, I run with default ammo. I've run out of ammo, being chased back to base. I've landed and positioned myself between buildings. After a couple hours, the flak has sometimes managed to subdue the assailant but, if not, I will reload by changing to unlimited ammo; if I've been too damaged to efectively take flight, I've waited until the attacker flew into my line of fire -- and did so.

Not really a war story but anyway:-
607 Squadron (EURO Group) used to have an annual cross channel race from Paris to London's Tower Bridge in Camels. NO SHOOTING.
Everyone spawns in the air above the center of Paris and the first one through or under the bridge in London (in one piece), around 40 minutes later, wins. We called it the "Frog Hop".
This can be a tedious event without comm's, as one tactic is to fly perfectly straight and level the entire race. With comm's it's usually an opportunity to for 'Bluster and BS' and quite entertaining.
Another is to reduce your fuel load to the bare minimum required for the distance, thus reducing weight and gaining speed.
This latter tactic can have disastrous results if your C.O. holds you at the start line because you will use the fuel you need to finish the race. As I found when my trusty camel stopped 200 yards short of the demm bridge and the other competitors barrel-rolled past me to complete the mission!

Im what you would call the Rookie in the scheme of things. My most interesting dogfight was with a Fw190 during a mission in USSAF campaign mode. Escorting the Secretary of the Treasury was no easy time for me, while he flew on I engaged a FW that tore me up pretty bad. I kept thinking what did I join the Corp for? Eventually by some miracle i got on his six and pumped the sucker full of lead . Fw are awfully hard to down for me tho, but i limped back home to base. mission accomplished.
