anyways, I finnally got CFS1 and love it. But then came the need for a better control stick, enter the Saitek X45. I fear my doom, It's manual is vegue on how to set up the profiles and even when I try to use one in CFS, the game doesn't recognize it or whatever. Please help a fledgling CFS pilot. It bumms me hard cause in Janes fs I was killer with a Logitech extreme 3D

Welcome man! ;) I can't help you because I don't have an X45, but I do have a Cyborg 3D. I dont use the profiles thing, and it seems fine. Have fun flying,
Dan

Ok. First step.
Put the stick back in the box, take it back to the shop and buy a Wingman 3-d for about $80 (Aus.)
Alternatively, try the help feature at the back of the manual...does it come with a C-d?
The cd may have some info...

I used an X-45 for a while and while I liked the separate throttle and the rotary controls for trim and mixture, I really didn't like the feel of the stick and just couldn't get on with the rudder. BTW - in many ways the X-45 throttle is rather nicer than the CH Products throttle I use now!
It's what you're used to I guess, I have squad members who use and swear by the X-45. I've always used either twist rudder (in the early days) or rudder pedals (now that I'm a flight sim obsessed saddo... ;)), and just couldn't make the leap.
When I did use the X-45, though, I installed the driver software and just plugged it in and played without profiles and what not.
You can assign aircraft controls to stick controls via the game's setting menus without messing with any profiling software that is just going to be something else working away in the background and making fewer system resources available to your game.

the X45 is a great stick for civil sims as it has heaps of buttons
but for the "thrill of the kill" a good FORCE FEEDBACK stick
like the new SAITEK CYBORG EVO FORCE(twist)
is the best
but the X45 can be very good just use the" drivers only" install as it says in the manual (profilers can be more trouble than there worth)
to get rid of the current install use the NUKE software on the disc
follow the instructions carefully!!!!
if you still have problems tread the boards here

I've just bequeathed my Saitek Evo to my nephew because it's so slow.
Micro$haft ForceFeedback 2 is the way to go in CFS.
Hate to say M$ did anything right for once but it's true. At least they've stopped doing it now so I can go back to dissin em again.
