Giving it a try.

Well while shopping yesterday I found copies of CFS 1 at Walmart for a cost of $9, so what do you have too lose besides another pack or two of cigarettes? I was actually searching for a copy of CFS 2 but that one must be real good I can't even locate a used copy anywhere! I'll be willing to trade a copy of CSF 3 for CFS 2 provided it is in the same condition as mine (mint) ;)

I just installed it and fired it up and it seems to work fine (Windows XP) have yet to really give it a good try though.
I wanted to come here and see if anyone knows of some initial tips and tweaks that are recommended for this sim.
Whenever I purchase a older program the first thing I'll do is look for any updates and yet to have found one for CFS 1, are there any?
And what if any add-ons are recommended??

Welcome to the club.  The only addition you may want to get right now is the Mission Editor.

This sim is quite fun!!
Still getting used to it and find it a lot better than CFS 3, this one actually runs without trouble!

Some of the flight dynamics seem way off but that might be made a little more realistic by messing with the realism section set at 50% the planes fly way to easy you can basically do what you want with the plane and not crash ;D

But still a few more hours to get the hang of it a lot different that FS9.

It is quite entertaining!
Only a few quirks that I have found, such as the inverted C47's LOL! ;D
And for some reason when I added the bullet and flak upgrade it would reset my sound card settings from 7:1 speakers to 2:1 ??? Maybe just a XP bug or something but in all a fun sim! wish I would have tried it sooner!!

Hi Fret. Glad you're enjoying it. CFS1 is still a good sim.

It's some time since I was actively involved with CFS1. I think there might be a CFG tweak to sort out your sound problem. Something to do with stereo sound. I'll try to find it for you later.

PS. Did you notice I posted a list of key commands for you? Our posts crossed in your other topic & you might have missed it.

It is something new to me also. I have the Creative Audigy Sound Blaster ZS2, great card!!!
But CFS1 is the first "old" program I have run with it so I'm thinking that it might be a compatability problem between the two. Although this only happened after installing new sounds upgrade.
Anyhow I emailed Creative to ask if there was anything they knew about, this is the only program that I have noticed doing this. When I first got the sound card I had a similar problem with the card not remembering its settings and every log on reseting to default (2:1) installed a patch and nothing need to be done afterwards, well until now.
And yes Hagar I saw your screenshot of commands if that is what your refering too, Thank you!!

edit: No I didn't see that before! Thanks a lot!! That is perfect!!!!!!

I didn't list them all, just the ones I thought would be most useful. I can easily add the whole lot.

Yeah that is the one I refer to in the "edit", have it printed and stuck in a plastic sleeve to display next to the monitor on my next mission. Thanks for taking the time Hagar it is greatly appreciated!

I have CFS1 but no add-ons. Is mission editor good? And is it easy to use?

I have the Audigy2 as well. I've been playing CFS on it with no problems so it's not the card.

Also, the only add-on I use (outside of EURO mission rooms) is the RAF662 gunsights to get rid of that damn great thing that covers the whole screen otherwise.

The graphics and flight models in CFS are apalling compared to modern games nowadays, but I still think CFS is the most entertaining of them all. I hope Tucker and his team make CFS4 the same as CFS1 just with better graphics and aircraft.
