Pilots Manual - Where  is it ?

I just bought and installed CFS, and the readme makes frequent reference to "Pilots Manual".

I've looked and cannot find it - where is it ?

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, a printed manual was included with CFS1 when it was originally released. It's possible they replaced this with an "online" manual on later versions (have a look on the CD for PDF files) or maybe they did away with it. The excellent CFS1 Help should give all the information you need.

Its C:\FS\CFS1\Pilot's Manual. I have a customized path though. Loads of *.pdf's, as Doug said.

;D Look in Amazon.com,Barnes and Nobles too.You can usually find a copy for sale. There is another book to called Inside Moves,( i think) tells all the "secrets" for the sim. The Pilots Manual is a Microsoft Press product. And yes, get it if you can find it.Great help, great book!

I have look there and no where to be found, just the read me, and help section but would love to have a PDF so that I can print it off instead of the stuff that the help thingy gives you which as you know is usually one sentance linked to another and so on, very bad for trying to find a answer being redirected to another page which then tells you to look elsewhere >:(

You might like to look on the CD. It's no use me checking mine as it was one of the original batch when CFS1 was first released. As I remember the manual wasn't much use anyway. Mainly a few facts about the aircraft that I knew already. Mine's been gathering dust on a shelf somewhere for years.

CFS1 Help is much better than the ones in the later M$ sims. I found most of the answers there when I first started as CFS Editor. I was very wet behind the ears & still finding my feet then. Much of the info also applies to FS98 & later versions of FS. I still refer to CFS1 Help occasionally when questions crop up here on this forum.

You can read it without running the sim. Look in the CFS1\Help folder & double-click on the cfs.hlp icon. Create a desktop shortcut to it if you wish.

I used the Hex editor trick in place of the no cd patch and it worked like a charm so that is when i decided to look into the CD, but no luck! You would think they would include it is PDF or something???
Oh well I'll go about learning the way I did FS9 trial and error.

Hey Dan you say you have it in PDF format? How large is the file?
The reason I would like to print a copy is becasue reading the Help section is too annoying, going from one page to the next and not getting a answer ( funny just like  M$'s web site!) , sort of the same going through the Yellow Pages, Look for Tires under "Tires" it directs you to "Automotive" which directs you to "Rubber companies" which directs you too...

Well you get the idea instead of giving you a telephone number you scan 456 pages and still have no idea who to call,LOL .

If the file isn't huge maybe I could get you to email me a copy?

Hhhmmmmm, very stange, in my box the manual was included... But why do you need it, it's a nice book (good stuff), but you don't need it in the game, do you? ???

Cheers

Mine didn't come with a box it was one of the chepo CDs from Wal Mart, just a jewel case with a cover sleeve, something I just noticed was that this is distributed by Atari, did M$ and Atari join together???
AnywayI would like to have a printed version of "key commands", that is the first trouble I had, the key commands from FS9 are different from CFS1 so I make many mistakes :-X and it isn't feasable going to the help menu to find the answers while in flight, I like to keep a chart next to my monitor for referance so I can glance at it if need be ;)

I could possibly find a list of key commands for you. Which ones did you find different to those in FS9? Most of the view & flight commands are exactly the same as CFS1 is based on FS98. The main difference will be the weapons & these are usually assigned to joystick buttons. You can bring up the keyboard quick reference from Free Flight, QC & Missions by hitting F2.

Thanks Hagar for the "F2" tip, that is a little easier!

I thought that if my aircraft was a blazing inferno I could eject from the cockpit and float to saftey???
Is there a way to eject?
As you can tell so far this seems to be a habit and I have lost many a airplane and pilot ;D
I also found that in a quick mission that I can have two of my all time favorite aircraft battle one another!
But just in case you didn't know those C-47s are not a match for a P38! ;D :o

Something of what I would like to have is a copy of key commands much like the ones you can get for FS9 in the downloads section, the color coded one, so you can quickly refresh your memory as to what combination you need for a specific action.

Hi Fret. It took me a while to understand the problem. As CFS1 was my first M$ sim the key commands are second nature to me now. It was much easier converting from CFS to FS as the main key commands are the same. Here's a screenshot of the CFS1 quick reference list. It's basically no different to what's printed on the back cover of the Pilot's Manual.

They had no ejector seats in WWII but you can bale out. Hit the O key 3 times in quick succession.

I found all the major key commands listed in CFS1 Help. These can be printed out. Type "key command" in the Help index & click the "Flying Using the Keyboard" link. I can copy them out on a web page & post it at my Lair if it's any help.

Gringo & Fret. You might like to try this. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs1faq.htm

Let me know if you have problems printing it. I've left some of the more common commands out but they can easily be added.

DOH!! You know as I was driving into work that is when I thought of that! I almost had to pull the car over because I was beating myself silly, LOL!!!!

Thanks for the tip for the key commands, I did happen across a download list for FS98, but just took a peek into the sim and yes my help file has it right there!
Thanks again!!
