Can anyone tell me if it is possible to install an autopilot in CFS2? I realize its not very realistic for fighters but I usually fly the bombers all the time any way. Would appreaciate any advice.

It's entirely possible!
Most of the aircraft at
http://www.hsquad.org/ have got them - at least they always used to. When I was into CFS1, those H_Squad guys were very much into navigating around their (great) scenery with IFR instrumentation and autopilot.
Go and have a look and then think about getting hold of CFGEdit to modify your panels to include an autopilot or any other gauge you want.
There's a very nice simple version that still manages to 'feel' period and will allow you simply to set your current altitude, heading, speed, etc

There is already an autopilot in CSF, all it needs is to be implemented.
I went into settings and assigned keyboard functions to the various autopilot functions that I thought I'd be using, and by golly it works just fine. I just use heading hold, and altitude hold. There is no use having approach hold, backcourse hold, nav hold, or localizer hold, since CFS doesn't have any airports with ILS, and there are no omni ranges either. I didn't program it to use GPS hold but so don't know if that would work or not.
If the panel you're using doesn't have a remote compass readout you may have to add one if you want to be able to dial in headings and have the autopilot follow them.
Not fancy but it works for me.
