newbie question

Just got cfs1, ya a little behind, anyways it works fine on free flight nice and smooth but when I flight mission or combat mode it freezes up and have to shut down computer. Here is list of my system. Toshiba Laptop 2250 series / 600 MHz. / RAM 64 / Display 600x800x16 / Trident Cyber9525DVD PCI/AGP W98(22_2) 2.5MEG RAM / Directx 9.0. / Sound blaster Pro.
Something else I should mention is I have not hooked up my joystick yet just flew around with keypad (yuk). I have tried some of the ideas found in faqs like editing the combatfs.cfg etc,etc.Would appreciate any ideas,will be gone for two weeks but will check back then. Thank you in advance, blue skies.

I know mine has problems with directx 9.0 It kicks me out of the game at random points and says i have a ddhelp.exe error.  It only did it after i installed directx 9.0.  It works fine with any other version of directx that i have used.

Thanks for reply, I will try directx 8 and see what happens. If this successful I will post another reply incase others have same problem, but will be gone for 2 weeks. Thanks again.
