Sky Raider AD1J

Postby jphespe » Sat May 12, 2018 5:18 pm

One of my favorites. Used to watch them make these as a kid in Hawthorne, CA. My house 2 blocks from the Douglas plant. Pictured in front of the Lyon Air Museum at KSNA. General Lyon is quite a collector, his most prominent is a B17, "Fudddy Duddy" housed in this museum among others.

Enjoy,
Jim

I have heard it was somewhat under powered and the pilots didn't particularly like them either, I have no real experience with them other than hearsay.

I know nothing about the airplane except that it was the single most important reason I wanted to become a Navy pilot back in the day (1960). For better or worse, that didn't happen (astigmatism in one eye) but my respect and admiration for Navy aviators never dwindled and I've spent many wonderful hours watching various Blue Angels teams perform. I still have not seen a Skyraider but will continue to hope.

BTW, the astigmatism did not keep me from having a 47 year career as a professional civilian pilot so perhaps it all worked out for the best. We play the cards we're dealt.
