Stoneboat in Oregon State...USA

Postby Flying Trucker » Sat Feb 24, 2018 3:24 pm

Good afternoon all... <<q

Daube (Stephane) gave me a short cross country flight to try in my last screenshot post "Pemberton to Hope...British Columbia...Canada
You were right Stephane the scenery is very nice.

Windows 10 Home & FSX Deluxe & Acceleration

Orbx Scenery
Orbx Weather Themes
Virtualcol FS Software Team DeHavilland of Canada DHC-3 Otter on wheels
Now I have not gotten around to purchasing the MilViz DHC-3 Otter as I am waiting to see if they come out with a package which would include the PT6A engined model of the simulated aeroplane

Departure: Hanel Field (00R9)
Distination: Oakridge State Field (5S0)
Both in the State of Oregon...USA

Weather Theme was Orbx 4 within the FSX program

Hanel Field (00R9) Oregon
Flaps in Take-off position...Tail wheel locked
Image

Mount Hood on Starboard Side
Flaps are still in Climb Position as I needed to get up to 12,500FT.
Image

Santiam Junction (8S3) can be seen below prop and just about between the wheels
I liked this shot as it gave a Frontal Profile of the aeroplane...not sure if I could have got it better
Image

Plan-G seems to work fine for me now and is on a 2nd monitor
Totally missed the 3 Sisters Volcanos...perhaps the visibility or I was just too close too McKenzie Bridge State (00S)
Image

Oakridge State (5S0)
Should have got closer in to the runway for the turn to final for a STOL...made it work
Image

A bit rusty...used almost 50% of the runway
Flaps still in Landing Position
Now not sure if this is a wasted shot or not...would really like comments on this one
Image

Stephane...I am here...where are you with the Wine and Cheese :?:
Image

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hey Doug ! Nice to see you gave that flight a try :)

However I'm surprised: you flew at "very high" (kind of) altitude. I thought you would fly at much lower altitude.
Usually, I fly around 3000 feet above the ground. The mountains over there are not so high, more like hills. When flying high, the terrain shape is not so lovely. When flying lower, it looks much better.
That being said, over such areas with not much airfield to land in case of emergency, your choice of altitude is the most "realistic" one, since a real pilot want to get some time to think in case the engine dies. Not so much time left when flying at 3000 feet above the ground, in fact...

Anyways, The first three shots are great, both in composition and view angles. I'm not a big fan of the paintjob of your plane, but it's ok. 8-)

The shots #4 and #5 are not so interesting though. Plane is too far, and in the center of the picture. The background in #4 has nothing to show, and we can't compensate by looking at the aircraft because it's too far/small. :| The shot #5 has the same problem of camera distance, but this time there is something interesting behind the plane. Even with that distance, if you had a way to put the aircraft out of the center of the picture, you might have been able to get a nice shot... but not an easy one, for sure.

The landing shot, #6, has the same problem as #5. It would have been nice if you could have turned the camera a bit to the right, to show a bit more of the runway and panorama, while keeping the aircraft in a corner of the picture, as an interesting detail. But just like #5, this kind of shot is very difficult to achieve. I tried it a few times, and almost each of them was a glorious failure

The last shot is nice, it brings a nice sense of "end of the flight, finally got there". Of course, that small airport is not so detailled, so it limits the level of your screenshot. But the same exact shot in a very detailled airport like Bowerman for example, would look stunning without much efforts :)

Much appreciated for your advice and comments Stephane...as Always very much appreciated... ;)

Must agree with you on the aircraft...probably could have made a better choice as this simulated model is really not detailed enough.

When I did the Flight Plan I used the recommended altitude. Never flown on the simulator in this area and was not sure of the terrain.
I try to fly the simulated flights as realistically as I can.

Learned many years ago:
Two (2) of the most useless things to a pilot when the engine quits are:
(a) The Fuel you left behind
(b) The Air above you

Again Stephane thanks and looking forward to some other simulated cross countries.... ;)

was Mt. Hood part of that orbx scenery? In FSX default scenery, it just looks like a white blob. as an Oregonian I'd love to get a better view of it.

The Mt.Hood is part of the OrbX PNW region.
This region includes a few areas covered by photorealistic textures. For example, all of the most recognizable mountains (volcanoes) and a few glaciers are photoreal. This includes the Mt.Hood, but also the Mt.Rainier, Mt. St.Helens, etc...

Doug, you forgot one
(a) The fuel still in the truck
(b) the air above you
&
(c) The runway behind you

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Aw, I wouldn't call it a correction Doug, more like an addition. :)
