Postby Flying Trucker » Thu Sep 07, 2017 7:50 pm

Good evening all... <<q

Microsoft FSX Deluxe + Acceleration and Windows 10
Orbx Scenery
Departure: Vermilion Bay Sea Plane Base "CKH6"
Arrival: Red Lake (Howey Bay) Seaplane Base "CKS4"
Both locations in Northern Ontario, Canada and were in the Orbx Airport Selection

Carenado Cessna 172 Seaplane...Payware

Late Summer and around 13:00 HRS

Setting Course for Red Lake (Howey Bay) Seaplane Base
Image

Fall/Autumn starts September 22nd and the trees are changing already
Image

C172 Floatplane Cockpit
Image

Rolling in to do a Precautionary Approach over the landing area to check for logs or partially submerged objects that could damage floats...or...even worse...flip the aircraft
Image

Cleared the trees now to set up the proper angle to let her settle down on the water...landing too hard on water is like landing on cement...can do a lot of damage to flying machine

Port Float touched first...

Now to power back...

Comments and Advice most welcome... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Nice shots Doug ! Some of the angles under the plane are quite cool :)
However, it seems your water is at very low settings, isn't it ? Did you change that recently ?

To answer the question above, one has to use the "special" views which are provided with some aircrafts (and can be added by editing the aircraft.cfg).
When switching the view modes with the S key, we get the following sequence:
1- virtual cockpit view
2- external view
3- tower view
4- special external view (if available/specified)
When reaching the 4th category, pressing the A key switches through the different special views. The "floats" view we see in Doug's shots is certainly one of them :)
Then you just need to move the camera up to your convenience, using the usual camera sliding controls like CTRL+BACKSPACE, SHIFT+ENTER, CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER, etc...

From my side, I like to reuse the special views provided in the A2A B-17 with Accusim. There are 13 or 17 external views from various angles around the plane, with a view distance which is quite nice for any kind of aircraft. So I go into the aicraft.cfg of the B-17, copy all of the [CameraDefinition.*] sections (numbers without zeros in the front, those are for the cockpit views usually), and paste them into the aircraft.cfg of the aircraft I want (removing any previous ones, adapting the numbers if needed, etc...).

Hi Stephane (Daube)

Thanks for your comments and explaining yancovich's question.

That you can do much better than I can...

Yes, I changed the Water Setting and did not use FSWC "Flight Simulator Water Configurator"

I changed some settings to the recommended settings in the Orbx uses guide for one of the two Seaplane Bases.
A mistake I believe...should have left well enough alone...have switched them back

I was wondering...Orbx has not produced any North American Terrain Expansion Packs for anywhere else in Canada other than the West Coast of the United States, Alaska and part of Canada.

I have both Pacific Fjords and Pacific Northwest installed...still waiting for Updates to work and be Registered with Orbx.

The several airports and seaplane bases supplied by Orbx in their Airport Package are not as detailed as the Payware Airports or Flying Fields they put out.

Hope they plan on expanding their products from the west to the east coast of Canada...I certainly would be purchasing them... ;)

What do you mean with "still waiting for updates" ?
The reason I ask this is that I have switched from FTX Central 2 to FTX Central 3 just a few days ago, in an attempt to help Yancovitch.
Before this, I had a few regions from OrbX, bought from FlightSimStore, but only PNW and Norway were installed.
When I installed the FTX Central v3, I had to:
1- create an account for FTX Central,
2- perform the "FSS licence migration".
Both steps tool only a few seconds.
Did you do that too ? Or not yet ?

Hi Stephane

All my other Orbx products transferred over but two from the Flight Sim Store.

They both show up in ftx Central 3 with update banner.

Hi,

We're still working on getting a system in place to upgrade old DVDs to OrbxDirect. This will be a fee-based transfer to cover admin cost, as previously offered via the FlightSimStore.

We should have this up and running very soon. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/ ... fical-faq/

Cheers,
Richard
