Mount St. Helens Plus in P3d V4

Postby OldAirmail » Tue Jun 27, 2017 9:26 am

I was reminded of Mount St. Helens thanks to pilotwin7.

Eventually Orbx will update their other scenery for V4, but until then the country and mountains is where P3d V4 looks the best.

An I complaining? No. The BEST is yet to come. :D

For anyone who's interested, I didn't use the PTA shader program for these shots, I had gotten a bit too enthusiastic and had to reset it.

I was pretty much a kid - playing road hockey when it blew...we were all like WTF? and then about an hour later it was dark and snowing ash like crazy...over on Vancouver Island. End of Days... we thought....

I just flew out to Mt. St. Helens in FSX-SE with Orbx PNW installed. The mountain and others nearby look very colorful and nice with great detail. The pictures that OAM posted may have a bit more detail and crispness in the rocks up close but its really close call.
Like OAM said, just think of what is to come as it develops.

I'm certainly happy that y'all like the pictures, but I better clear up the confusion.

The more that I compare this region in both V3 & V4, the more that I think that what you see in the original post might be the same in V4 as it is in V3.

What Prepar3d V4 is missing the most is FTX Global VECTOR. Along with FTX Global Lights Configurator, and all of the airports.

Also missing is FTX Global VECTOR that makes the roads, rivers, and shores look great.

It does have the North American areas which give these pictures most of their clarity.

Image

But, overall, the most significant improvement is in the FTX Global BASE Pack, and the openLC's to some extent.

It's the FTX Global BASE Pack in particular that gives the fantastic mountain side resolution to the areas outside of the "special" Orbx areas

Image

This is from Hawaii, which is far out of the main Orbx areas, and yet to me it looks BETTER than the main Orbx areas. And THAT can only be produced by FTX Global BASE Pack and the 64bit Prepar3d V4.

Image

So now we get to the V3 and V4 comparison.

This is the V3 scenery in as best a match as I could get it.
Image

And this is the V4 scenery from the first post.
Image

Pretty much identical, don't you think?

Orbx needed SOMETHING to put out there. I think that those main regions are simple port-overs.

But that Hawaii picture and this Taiwan picture? That has got to be a clue of what's to come.

Image

Not that everything is great, Africa and South America are still bottom of the barrel in so far as great scenery goes.

Still, things are getting better.

To my trashed old eyes OAM,your shots
look a little crisper than my FSX DX10 shots.
Very similar though.Wonderful shots BTW.

Within well established limits, FSX is still quite useable, not to mention the very large number of aircraft and scenery that's available for it.

Many of the add-ons in the last few years have made it better than I would have thought was possible four or five years ago.

What I'm hoping that I see in the 64bit version of Prepar3d, is a more realistic ground scenery. For me, that's important. More so than the specific aircraft that I fly in many cases.

So for now, it's a personal decision of what we each find the most important.

What's to worry about is if "we", as a group, cling to the old and familiar so tightly that little else is developed.
