A beautiful flight in Canada

Without Open LC Canada I probably wouldn't have made this flight. Glad I did.

It's just a short trip from CYBD outside of Bella Coola in British Columbia, to CYJQ outside of Bella Bella.

Image

Aircraft - FSX Lockheed Vega

After leaving CYBD I turned around, flying past the little town of Bella Coola heading west. From there on the flight was a delight. HIGHLY recommended.

Thanks guys.

I suppose that I should have drawn that red line to show the path I took, but except for the last hop, it was all over water.

Looking at those pictures I can't stop from saying that the actual flight looked better as it was flown than it does in the pictures.

Really, give it a try.

hello OldAir, on your advice , I just flew that route using the yellow/white Grumman Goose. Its perfect for this trip. I flew the water route all the way and I used "real weather'. The weather was great and the scenery was terrific. I dropped down on one of the straight water stretchs and ran the hull along the water for a while. I used some flaps and just "step taxiied" along the water. Then I pulled up and continued the flight. It was nice. It looks pretty isolated for the people who live there. I wonder what they do for a living? I bet it involves trees, water, or furs and stuff.

Great pictures. I have flown that area for real many times. It is a little different IRL, but nevertheless breathtaking. You'll notice a place call Ocean Falls, which is almost a ghost town now, but was the prime Hydro-electric project for Alcan Aluminum. The built the town from scratch and now it's almost abandoned. Bella Coola is a fishing town as is Bella Bella. The population is predominantly native.

Hello Log, and Masabi. Log, thanks for the added info. on the BellaBella-BellaCoola area. I forgot Fish........with all that crystal-clear fresh Canadian mountain water around there must be a zillion fish enjoying their lifestyle and laying eggs like crazy. I may go there and catch a few.
Masabi, you will enjoy the Grumman Goose on any flight in that area. Its a natural for low and slow overwater flights. I really enjoy the realistic engine sounds too, its just heavenly. Enjoy.

Thanks again. I'm glad some of you've tried the flight.

Sometimes flights that you think will be interesting are "ho hum".

This flight looks like something that I'd like to visit in an amphibious flyer that was converted into a flying RV.

Fly in, do a little fishing, sit around a campfire with a hot cup in your hands, swat at a few bugs, move downwind into the smoke to avoid the 'skeeters. :D

Definitely one of those flights where the flight it's self is much better than the pictures.

Nicely done...certainly would want something like a DeHavilland of Canada Amphibian DHC-2 "Beaver" or DHC-3 "Otter" to fly that area...an Amphibious Flying Boat would be a good choice also... ;)

The approach into Bella Coola from the Anahim Lake area is interesting. Try following the Bella Coola river valley from it's source in the Coast Mountains. If you can see terrain on either wing tip, then you are right on the numbers for a flawless landing. Wilderness Airlines flies Cessna Caravan to the airport and DHC3 Otter amphibs. There are numerous logging camps all over the coast you can fly to make your experience interesting.

Beautifull photos, inspired me to take same route. Being a VW mechanic, I tested my D.31 Turbulent with a converted VW 1200cc and choosing the 50's flight era. The water in Silver Wings version of FS 2004 is muddier, no gorgeous reflects at all. Anyway I took of from Bella Coola & followed the river:

I like Slow & Low "a la Fozzer", enjoying the scenery around me. Remins me of those flights in the jungle mountains of South México, fixing stationary motors of all types for mills that processed coffee, cacao, barbasco or whatever product was maintaining economy alive in isolated comunities, by delivering their products. All Pipers and Cessnas where taildraggers in those early 70's days.

Funny: I did not remember we had portables with GPS in the early 50's!

Following the route, really much better flight than the shity photos I am posting
