the Triumphant Return of ~ FSX!

Postby Spindrift » Thu Jul 25, 2013 4:57 pm

From the deep rises an ancient relic to reclaim it's former glory once again! :character-oldtimer:

Sorry I've been away so long! been lurking about now and then... and then at just the right moment, I stumbled on some previously-unbeknownst-to-me tweaks that have completely changed FS performance on my PC! Most notably the USE of bufferpools, and the NVidia Inspector 1/2 refresh rate settings... holy macaroni... now I get a buttery smooth 30 fps with NO STUTTERS. Almost all settings maxed! 4096 textures and 6.5 LOD radius! first time I've ever been able to fly over heavily populated areas and ENJOY the smooth view above buildings!

Some recent randoms:

(compression has hurt these a lot, but I follow the rules! These are razor sharp shots full-size, thanks to dumping internal AA for NVidia Inspector settings... unbelievable clarity!)

Image

You could have guessed I'd snatch up this puppy! RAWR!

Image

Early morning touch-n-go's (land and water) at good old Friday Harbor... gotta keep those landings up to date for the license!

Image

AutoGen maxed out ridiculously... 30 fps and not a stutter to be had.

Image

Going up the Ramp at CBB7 Tipella, Orbx's latest freeware Airport for PNW customers. MOVE THAT LA-4 OVER! Hey, has anyone made a good Lake La-4 for FSX? Free-or-Payware?

Image

Also at Tipella, if you look real hard, you can see a SQUIRREL running across the strip! just above the lower starboard wing! I was NOT expecting it, and I just busted out laughing! :lol:

Cheers! :beer:

The Best part about these tweaks is their simplicity, I just started with a clean install and added these tweaks to my CFG file:

----------------------------------------------------
[BufferPools]
BufferPools=1
PoolSize=15000000
RejectThreshold=131072

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=14 // (14 is for a quad core without hyper-threading enabled, like my i-5 3570K)

[Graphics]
HIGHMEMFIX=1

[Main]
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1
DisablePreload=1

[SCENERY]
SmallPartRejectRadius=2 // (n is normal, 1 pixel. Try 2, 3, or 4... you might notice some popping in-and-out of autogen and ai traffic)

------------------------------------------------

I got these CFG tweaks, FSX settings, and and the accompanying NVidia Inspector settings from this Brit on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzNO5Vvgl5M

I only used his DX9 tweaks, he has more for DX10 too! Thanks for looking!

Awesome shots!! The last one is amazing. I also have the Virtavia Rutan Long-EZ for FSX and I must say it's quite an awesome airplane. It looks great, has great performance both as an aircraft and FPS-wise, and it's a bit challenging to fly...I love it.

Thanks Fishbed! Yeah the Long-EZ was my very first payware purchase, an old favorite now, I dust her off once in a while and run around the pattern... I actually used it to tour all of Orbx Pacific Northwest 2 years back... Learn how to fly it like a STOL bushplane for some REAL excitement! I also began an around the world flight in it as well but gave up too soon... However, now that FTX Global is on and poppin' I started anew in the excellent BayTower Studios Vans RV-7! Made from home (here in central Pennsylvania, USA) to Newfoundland so far.... Maybe I should start a post for that excursion.... Would anyone follow it?
