TriStar - an old favorite

Postby todayshorse » Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:04 am

Hi all! Just a little ditty i put together once id fathomed that to get some repaint to work i had to run Fs9 as an administrator ::)

Bah humbug. An old Aerosim TriStar but probably the best there is out there ever of this seemingly forgotten wonder machine. Its a pity it comes with the most rubbish DC-8 youve ever seen in your life....and a rather decent DC-10.....

And luckily id saved it on a CD and that saved it from the ex who probably eBayed/set fire to everything flight sim chez todayshorse that id collected over the years!

Anyways, here we are on a dawn marmalade-on-toast time arrival and an afternoon tea-and-cakes time departure. Check it....

:o Lovely stuff there! Great work! 8-)

Out of curiosity, what format do you save your repainted textures in? (I presume the above shots are in FS9?)
I've always used DXTBmp, but are there better programmes out now for saving textures?

Cheers!

Thanx guys, the repaint isnt mine -  its one i found on Avsim...Shhh!

DXTbmp......hmmm i recall doing mine (its been a while) using DXT.bmp, saving as extended, or 888-8. is that 32bit? I never used DXT3 or whatever.

As for the TriStar, i last saw one near Cambridge somewhere a year or so ago......some airport, where they do stuff to them for the RAF i think?

Fantastic, I love the big "three holers."

There's a scheduled FedEX MD-11 flight every day when I arrive at work so I see it take off all the time.  It's massive!

Wonderful shots. I never cease to be amazed at how good some FS9 shots can be. :)

Cheers :) I realise i cant get some of the stuff that FSX does so well such as water but i think fs9 can give it a run for its money with the right scenery, settings and a lot of time getting it running real nice.

Its why although i have FSX you wont see much from it from me, mainly because i just cant stop it doing this 'choppy screen' when looking from spot view. It drives me round the bend and i havent found a solution yet other than buying a new Imac..... ::)

They're all quite gorgeous, though I must say that I rather fancy #2 the most. The Tristar from HJG isn't bad, either. I've been playing with it a bit, even though I was a DC-10 guy once upon another life. Still can't beat Lockheed engineering, though.

Thanx guys  :) It shows what a really good repaint and some cracking scenery can do in fs9 i think. I havent yet figured what it is about the repaint that makes it look so real despite studying the .bmps.....Ive a feeling its semi photo-real, somthing i never quite got my head around!!!

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.
