What's this I see?

Postby jankees » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:55 am

What's this I see in this lonely corner of my local airfield?

That looks very much like a Boeing Flying Fortress

Indeed it is, cool!

My uncle works in the airforce and took us into a B52 a few years ago... I'd imagine it's like the plane in your photo where they have to crawl into it from the door underneath. It was SO uncomfortable in there... the seats didn't even have cushions, and I'm not sure if it was even heated inside!!  :-/

Your story was cute, btw  :)

Thanks for the comments!

You're looking at the A2A B-17G for FSX, with my own paint slapped onto it

There is a B-17 on fixed display just south of Tulare, California at Mefford Field. It's behind a fence, but you can get close enough to see that these were not big airplanes. What really impresses me is that 20 year-old kids went up in these fragile things to defend the liberty of the Free World. Over 100,000 died in them. We owe them more than we can ever repay them. My Uncle Jimmy was one of them. Killed on his third mission in December 1943. He was 19. May God Bless their souls...
