what makes me laugh is that if they released it now and it was full of bugs people would be even more jazzed off than they are now, and im looking forward to REX as much as the next guy, but hey just gotta wait.
oh and im loving the shots

But it's one thing to tell us it's gonna be a while, and another to keep advertising, "IMMEDIATE RELEASE" for the past year and a half...

Not quite - it's been about a year, and 'coming soon' was on their site from maybe March.... but I remember on first seeing their pics last October, and before there was any talk of a weather engine or flight planner, thinking naively that 'it looks great, they are posting promo shots, so it must be nearly ready for release'. I thought it would be definitely out for Xmas 07, but Tim was evasive about this and said, just like now,
they can't give a specific date but it won't be long. What I think happened is that they severely underestimated the nightmare of programming the weather engine, and there was maybe some feature creep. It would have made much more financial sense to release it at Xmas as a textures-only product like Flight Environment - many many people would have bought it. Then work on a new product - Rex PRO - with more textures and the planner, weather engine, toaster and everything else... and sell it with a discount to existing customers. Or even without the discount. :D
It's not about bringing out a bug-free product taking time, and unreasonable impatience from 'immature people' as so often their supporters make it out to be. It's about promoting the product long before it was ready, keeping the idea alive that it's coming soon and generally not communicating with potential customers that actually it's still a long way off - with the result, intentional or not (who can say?), of stringing people along and stopping them from buying competitors products.
