Looks very good! I'm not really into tubes, but I do like these shots, especially the last!

Nice shots. First one you could have covered up the ground a bit more. The blurry textures kinda ruin the overall shot a bit.

i didn't want to go too far under the plane or too high.

there might be buildings there if i upped the Autogen more but they would be concealed by the smog anyways. after all it is LA

Are payware planes more highly detailed than anything we can get from the Downloads section? I'm just wondering why theirs look so good and mine look like a three year-old drew them...

lol why what are you flying? Some payware ive come across is dreadful-Aerosim DC-8 anyone? On the tail it says 'FATEST' rather than 'FASTEST' (i think its a roll out model or somthing) But their TriStar is the best ive seen! And as it all comes together you end up with the DC-8 anyway!

Not necessarily though, generally, the aircraft that PMDG make are considered to be the best of the best payware. The details on their 744 for example is absolutely stunning. I remember that a while ago one of our forum's members made a comment in which he told us that he knew a real life 744 captain who commented on the PMDG 744 saying that is is the most realistic thing he'd ever seen. Not that you will be able to fly a real one when you think you've mastered the PMDG 744 but according to that captain it was the closest thing ... So although the PMDG 744 is rather expensive it is justifiable in my opinion. So much detail must cost a lot of time and as we all know: 'Time is money'

Also very true ... and there are many, many developers giving us fantastic models FOR FREE!! Project Opensky, iFly, iFDG, Project Fokker, FFG, TinMouse, Ready for Pushback, Erick Cantu, AFG, Milton Shupe, Dreamwings, Rick Piper, CalClassics, Kirk Olssen, etc, etc ... just to name a few.

So although payware generally will be more realistic and detailed, you can get so very close to these products with the above aircraft. And I didn't even mention scenery, sky and weather enhancements.

If you like take a look at my Anchorage Action series. You can see a good mix of freeware and payware aircraft in different sizes and liveries. Hopefully you will notice that (at least in the shots) there isn't a huge difference in quality. There are four parts; see the link at the top of each post. For every shot there is a link to the model's page, whether it is freeware or payware.

And of course, the best thing is just to ask: "Hey, that one looks really good! Which model is that? Or: which sky textures are you using? Or: How did you get clouds like that?"

Agreed, the PMDG 747 in both variants is worth every penny. Im guessing the FSX version is even better but as my system barely handles fs9 nearly maxed out im reluctant to upgrade just yet!

Once you master the FMC it comes into its own, nothing i have seen comes close - the level D 767 is also very very good, far more acessible for just jumping in and shooting a few ILS approaches and the like, and a lot more friendly on my system at frame rate heavy scenery such as the 9dragons kai tak(thats free by the way and worth a look!) but i think the PMDG just eclipses it in my view.

The tinmouse 737 is well worth a download both for visual model and the 2d cockpit, although i cant recall if the cockpit came with it or i found it elsewhere saying it was for it. Highly recommended though.
