After deleting Accelleration from my hard drive due to its incompatibility with FSX and my extremely on-edge temper right now...

...having had one final farewell flight in the excellent Hornet that came with it.....














....I started my Accelleration free sim and - hey presto - my small collection of FSX add-on freeware worked perfectly again. Yay!!  :D

I thought I'd try importing my first payware bird from FS9 just to see what happened - and to my infinite joy, it worked!!













Phil and Co - there are a few people out there with lots of money to buy the very newest hardware all too happy to tell you what you want to hear - no backwards compatibility....add complexity... ... push on, on....

Don't listen to them! Don't listen!! FS is SO much more fun with add-ons....

Hence why you will have the option to stay with FSX if you prefer to have all of the old addons!

In order for FS to take the next big step, it really does need a total revamp. There are a thousand things that could be improved, which would all benefit from a completely new game.

But for now, I'm happy with FSX... plus Acceleration.

Progress and change are inevitable things Roger. Sure you need to upgrade some hardware to fully enjoy FSX (and Acceleration) but didn't we have the same issues with FS9?

I think that Phil Taylor and his team do need to listen to others as I believe that you cannot improve by relying on status quo. If you really want to revolutionize with an awesome product like FSX you need to develop it on the hardware of tomorrow, with the latest techniques and tools. I think that is what Aces did ... and we're slowly getting access to the hardware and such.

If you want it all then you have to dig deep but if you can wait ... well ...

I was in a 'letting off steam' mood last night - tomorrow my  teaching semester starts and I'll be doing a 60 hr/week + for three months - I'm a lazy bugga so I'm none too pleased  ;D

I don't want to get a reputation as an "MS-Basher" but with some of our most prominent members continually pushing the opposite view I do feel it needs, occasionally, someone to say the opposite.

If FSXI includes a MANAGEABLE user friendly programme that helps freeware - and even payware developers to put out tons of add-ons, then that's okay. But take it from me - I won't be the only one complaining if there are hardly any add-ons for FSXI for a year or two after release due to the massive complexity (and the fact that most people can't even afford the hardware for a while). Having seen CFS3 falter due to the lack of backwards compatitility (I believe) it is a question if it's really necessary to do away with it for the series to move forward. I'd be happy with the same engine as FSX, a bit better graphics - and a lot of QUALITY CONTENT out of the box in a game which is OPTIMISED for comps to run.

FSX looks quite good on my humble comp so I can't really complain. I found Accelleration with SP2 just destroyed my desire to play FS, that's all. A lot of people are using it without trouble or found work-arounds - good for them!!  :)

Tonight if I get time I'm going to try to put some FS9 Czech scenery in FSX. Next shots from there.

i have an old PC (most at least 2 years or so except graphics card) and FSX + Accel runs brilliantly! as nick says, "its not FSX its you or your machine!"

Microsoft have done an excellent job thing is, things have to be complicated for the full benefits to be reaped.
