The only thing I can do is change drivers.

They are better but the mesh still looks a bit rough in places... ;)

are you talking about the mesh or the textures? because saying the mesh looks rough makes no sense at all to me.

all your shots have looked good duke, I don't quite understand what the others where complaining about, i see some blurred textures but meh who  really cares.

I think I might have found at least part of the problem. Default FSX mess for Europe is only 76 meters. I did update the drivers to my card but I can't tell much difference.

In the shots you show here, I don't think the mesh is a problem.

The snow textures on the other hand aren't brilliant, but what can you do? It's default FSX. One trick might be to introduce a couple of low level cloud layers to mask it's natural graininess. Go for a variety of different cloud types with fairly low coverage.

This is an example of one of my shots using clouds to mask a dodgy snow texture. Not brilliant, but it gives an idea.

If you do want to improve the mesh for Europe, have a look at the mesh downloads available on this site. I think France and the Alps are well covered.

As for drivers, I'm not sure. I'm afraid I'm guilty of not updating mine unless a specific problem is encountered with a specific piece of software.

In general I like these shots, they show off the plane well. As a child, I built a plastic model of a Bristol Fighter and like the other planes I gummed up and painted, I have a fondness for it.

It's odd, but after handling a scale model you have a strange intimacy with the plane and recognize details previously experienced through touch. On this plane I particularly remember the heavy stitching of the fuselage fabric and the grill on the nose.

Ahh! Airfix.

It is not a problem J. If he's satisfied with them who are we to persuade him to change anything. I just see things and make suggestions. It is up to the Duke if he does something with that ...

As Soames suggested, check out the SimV FSX mesh ... I don't have FSX running so I cannot comment on then (I have FS Global 2008 on FS9 ;)) but the previous version was very nice ...

Actually the first thing I noticed (in the previous post) were the textures. There were large pixel shaped things (example here and here) in them that don't belong there. CERTAINLY NOT with GEX which I believe Duke is running.

Although it generally doesn't hurt to update your drivers, I don't think that that would solve this issue.

If this doesn't work, there one more option.

Before you take drastic measures try uninstalling GEX, making sure nothing is left behind. Make a screenshot in a (snowy/mountainous) location that you can easily remember. Reinstall GEX and configure it to your taste. Go to the same location as where you first took the screenshot and see if there is a change.

And try the mesh ... see if that makes a difference ;)

Good luck! Let us know how it went!

I don't know for sure what was on the persons mind who designed those textures but I think it is supposed to be a transition between snow and earth so there isn't a sharp line dividing the two. That is my impression anyhow. I would also say that more time could have been spent on it. I found a shot from the same area in FS9. I believe I like the default FSX mesh and textures better than FS9.

FSX's default mesh is certainly better than FS9's.... me having had experience of both, like many... but some of FSX's default textures are a bit iffy.

I'm sure thaere's an add-on somewhere out there that fixes it, but having literally just transferred to FSX I have not yet started searching out add-ons in earnest. Still getting used to its little foibles. ;D

I thought you had UTX, GEX and FEX so what is all this fuss about default textures? If you have GEX then you should have the best ground textures available and - no offense - but I can't imagine this quality with GEX.

If you knew anything about FSX, you would know that GEX and UTX is for the US and Canada only right now. Those shots are from Europe which is still default. I have to post in the Payware section because of FEX. Check it out at http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=gexusacan You might ever find a screenshot there with snow textures like mine.
