Alaska Exposed...

Postby Fly2e » Sun Nov 12, 2006 4:28 pm

[center]ALASKA EXPOSED...
The 1st in a series of landscape shots from the beautiful State of Alaska...

When I fire up my Sim and really want to get away from it all, I fly the Alaskan bush! Most of my time it is in the De Havilland Beaver. This little workhorse is very popular with the Alaskan Bush pilots as they are reliable and can land and take off almost anywhere. With all the screenshots I take from this part of the world which usually center around the aircraft, I very rarely get to share the beautiful world in which I fly. This will be all done in real weather and in real time whenever possible. We will be visiting the many small villages, harbors and majestic mountain ranges that make this place such an interesting environment to fly! I will be using my Nikon D-70 Digital to shoot this vast landscape along with some breathtaking panoramic shots!

It will be a visual documentary of the majestic
and wonderful sights that this great State has to offer. I will start my journey at Ketchikan, Alaska and head North towards Anchorage visiting the many secluded airstrips and towns that Alaska has to offer.
I hope you enjoy this series as much as I enjoy flying it!

Gorgeous Dave! I really like your last shot. Those low cloudlayers around the mountains in the distance is absolutely stunning ... soo sharp, it can't be true.

However I'm not a fan of that water texture ... it looks too much sci-fi to me. Is it FS9 or FSX?

Hi Dave:  :)

Really like that third shot, there is some colour in the water I can relate to having flown in northern Canada, the mines would turn the water purple and kill a lot of the trees.  :(

That last shot...wonderful.  ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Last one is really good.

I too am not a fan of the water textures with FSX.  Large bodies of water don't look like that in real life, you don't get that much reflection, it just looks too fake.  That's why the last shot is so good, you would see that kind of reflection on a small lake like that.  But there is hope.  The basics are there for an add on later that will most certainly bring it closer to real life.

These shots are from FS9.  ;)
Thanks for the comments though.
Notice all the auto-gen? And I have heard from a few how bad the autogen is in FS9  ::)

I will agree with the water reflection. I am always experimenting and playing with different water textures., These are from Real Environment Pro. I really like the texture but what I really dislike is that reflection that gives those weird lines in the water!

Like I have said, it is all about the world you create!

The creator has the right idea... it just needs to be toned down so it blends better. I could probably work that out but I do not have the time right now.

As usual your shots are very professional Dave.

The creator is Tim Fuchs and I emailed him today to see if he had any feedback on it.

I also use Flight Environment which gives lots of water textures to choose from.

Thanks for the comments!

Those lines in the reflections are what put me off Real Environment Pro .... I think i'll continue to use Flight Environment with it's hundereds of combinations.

Stunning shots as usual though Dave ...... they prove that there is more to FS than blasting across the globe at 500mph and 37000ft.

Those cloud layers look very real...  Love the humidity and the one cutting through the mountain top ;D

I think the ENV file he developed has potential. If he were to simply fade the image of the sky back but leave the contrast/brightness and hue on the outer circumference of the ENV ring so the water remains with a fluid "shine" on the surface, the results may be very impressive.

OK, then that's just not fair that your version of FS9 looks that darn good.......... :o

Once again I'll say it, who needs FSX !

I kid, I kid..........
